Start with a decision
Choose a specific task and identify who acts on the result. A service assistant that retrieves policy information has different requirements from a workflow that changes a customer order. Define the decision boundary before selecting a model.
Design access before retrieval
Useful context must also be authorized context. Preserve source permissions as information moves into retrieval indexes, and test whether users can access content outside their role. Treat permission changes and source deletion as part of the data lifecycle.
Evaluate the whole workflow
Model quality alone is not enough. Test retrieval relevance, answer support, escalation behavior, latency, and cost against representative business scenarios. Include ambiguous questions and missing information in the evaluation set.
Keep consequential actions reviewable
Require clear authority for actions that affect customers, records, or transactions. Give reviewers the original evidence and a way to reject or correct a proposed action. Start with a bounded deployment and expand only when the evidence supports it.
